PSUni: God of War III won't be utilising a PlayStation hard-drive install, despite using the complexity of a dual-layer Blu-ray disc. The last PS3 game to make use of the greater capacity 50GB Blu-ray was Kojima Productions' Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which not only required significant HDD space, but also made a new lengthy install after every one of the game's five acts. With Yakuza 3 releasing in stores on March 9th, 2010 here in the US, it has been out for quite a while in Japan and they are all set for the release of Yakuza 4 already, it's no surprise that a demo for the upcoming game is available, it became available last week. Graphically the difference between the original two on the PlayStation 2 and Yakuza 3 on the PlayStation 3 is fairly impressive, the cut scenes are much better quality and the actually gameplay looks much better, but being on the PlayStation 3 it is expected to look better than its previous titles. Once again the voices are in Japanese and the subtitles are in English, so be prepared for some reading, although I think this is the way the game should be. (1 d ago)

Critical Gamer Writes: Fighting with your parents is far to familiar to many of us. How many times have you heard your mother call to you and order you to "Turn that down, sunny," when you were younger? Be it a videogame, TV, or music? But I doubt many of you have brought it this far. On February 11, at or around 10pm, James Swan, a 27 year old man, while playing World of Warcraft, got into a fight with his mother when she had asked him to quiet down as her 3 grandchildren were attempting to sleep. After ignoring her requests, the mother walked over and placed her hand on his shoulder, which sent James into a rage. He then grabbed her by the hair and threw her across the room. From here, she somehow managed to get to a phone and began to dial 9-1-1. In which James got to the phone and ripped it out of the wall, proceeded to push her to the ground and choke her. At around this point the James' Grandfather came in with a handgun and accidentally shot James in a power struggle after the gun, still holstered, misfired and grazed his left ear. (7 h ago)

David Adams, general manager at Vigil Games, and creative director Joe Madureira took the stage at DICE and talked about developing Darksiders, taking it from concept to retail release. Starting out, they had little in the way of concrete ideas, aside from a vague concept of wanting to make an action adventure game in the spirit of a Ratchet & Clank. Original character art showed off a lighthearted young elf, a character who could channel energy and tame beasts. The next revision, tentatively named "robot arm kid," had a bulkier character with a mechanical arm that could be deployed similarly to the one in the Bionic Commando games. John Schappert, chief operating officer at Electronic Arts used his time at DICE to talk about 20 years of technology transitions in the gaming industry. Aside from the obvious technological advances, Schappert says that one of the big changes is the number of gaming platforms and the difficulty in tracking data on such a fragmented marketplace. NPD information, one of the biggest tools that analysts and companies rely on, is largely incomplete. It doesn't track big-box retail sales or online sales, leaving huge gaps in the data. That leads to negative (and inaccurate) headlines in mass media and the gaming press. Schappert says that the gaming industry is in the midst of a transition, and that the industry has survived them in the past. Red Steel 2 creative director Jason Vandenberghe is a really happy guy, and it seems this is mostly thanks to what he and the development team at Ubisoft Paris has achieved with Red Steel 2. All the hype currently surrounds Call of Duty and the Modern Warfare franchise. These games, in our eyes, are vastly over-rated, and this is why when Activision revealed that they would be releasing a handheld version for the DS we were quite cynical. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Mobilized is impressive enough in terms of gameplay, with control of aiming taking place on the touchscreen while movement is done with the D-pad.
