The Moviewatch 2009 Highlight Reel The Moviewatch 2009 Highlight Reel
01/01/2010
2009 was a pretty good year for machinima. We saw some new work, new artists, and new ideas hit the WoW movie scene. We even saw the resurgence of some friendly old faces, as well as the completion of a few legendary projects. This was a transformative year in many ways, and I'm excited to see what might come around as a result in 2010. What follows behind the cut are about 10 memorable movies from 2009. They are in no particular order. Since so much is in the eye of the beholder, I didn't even try and consider a "best of" list for 2009 machinima. There's no doubt important movies that aren't on the list, so I'm not even saying these are the 10 most important. These are just 10 movies (and creators) who have stood out in the minds of WoW .com's team of crack journalists. Around Azeroth: Ratatouille Around Azeroth: Ratatouille

Brewmaster Arshley of <Thunderbrew Guard> on Steamwheedle Cartel discovered a stray giant rat hanging out in one of the Dalaran kitchens. After an extensive period of pleading for its life, the rat managed to persuade him to leave in peace so that it could fulfill its dream of becoming a master chef. The rat even gave Arshley a piece of its delicious mandarin and watermelon tart. Unfortunately, the next day, Arshley and half the city had contracted the bubonic plague. I guess there's a reason rats are generally not welcome in kitchens. Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth ! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next! Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val'kyr on mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. 01/01/2010
Happy New Year everyone! 2009 is behind us and we now have 2010 to look forward to. This year, we'll be anticipating Cataclysm to come out (but after we take down Arthas ). Speaking of goals, were you able to fulfill the personal achievements you set out in 2009? Maybe it was to go after the Violet Proto-Drake . Or it could've been to join a raiding guild and see end game content. Perhaps it was to kill Arthas (which none of us have done yet, to be fair). For myself, I set out a goal to exceed 7000 achievement points . I managed to score about 7400. Oh, another important resolution? I'm still playing the game and having fun on my priest ! I didn't think I had it in me to go another year but I did! I still have that Inner Fire burning within me, I suppose. Here's my list of resolutions for 2010: Take down Arthas (on Heroic difficulty) Get the Loremaster achievement Earn (and hold onto) more than 10000 gold Finish getting my druid to 80 Start a pure DPS class and at least get it to 40 (Mage? Warlock?) What about you? What do you resolve to do in 2010? Filed under: Breakfast topics Breakfast Topic: Happy New Year! Best of WoW.com: December 2009 Best of WoW.com: December 2009
01/01/2010
And there's a hand, my trusty fiere, And gie's a hand o' thine! And we'll tak a right gude-willy waught, For auld lang syne . December brought us patch 3.3 , Icecrown Citadel's new raid and 5-mans , " Rocket bare !", and the endless joy of the new Dungeon Finder . I think we can all agree that 2009's going out on a high note, and that this is one of the best patches Blizzard's ever released. Arcane Brilliance: How to be a good PUG mage : "It was like some kind of idiot convention, and I was the keynote speaker." Totem Talk: On unique gearing and gear consolidation : Rossi has mixed feelings on the benefits of gear consolidation, particularly because +spellpower mail is far better itemized for Restoration, and Enhancement shares gear with hunters, who don't want the same stats. Official patch 3.3 confirmation and patch notes : Patch 3.3 went live on December 8th to universal acclaim, and the enormous popularity of the Dungeon Finder took everyone by surprise. The lore of patch 3.3 : A fantastic joint effort between Adam , Alex , and Sacco to bring you the background on how patch 3.3's story came about. 01/02/2010
PSLS writes: Zipper Interactive's uber-ambitious 256-player "Massive Action Game", or MAG as it's officially named is set to hit the PlayStation 3 January 26th. If you have played the beta then you know the massive multiplayer madness the game serves up. MAG is pegged to start Sony's 2010 line-up off with quite a bang. To ensure you get to start off the year with a bang as well, we've found pre-order incentives that will help you get the most bang for your buck. Along with the almost standard Amazon.com discount on new games (about $3 off the retail price), you also get the Amazon exclusive S.V.E.R. Home Space for pre-ordering MAG early. If that isn't a big enough pre-order incentive, Amazon is offering a 'massive' credit toward your next video game purchase. Anyone who pre-orders MAG gets a $10 credit toward the next video game purchase. MAG has a Jan. 26th release date, head on over to Amazon now and take advantage of these pre-order incentives.

Resonance of Fate Director Apologizes Fo... Resonance of Fate Director Apologizes For Demo Difficulty (Resonance of Fate)
01/01/2010
The resent Resonance of Fate (aka End of Eternity) demo offers two modes: Newcomer Mode and Normal Mode. The former is a tutorial sorts, although instead of actually instructing players step by step, it merely adds helper icons and text to the screen. Newcomer Mode was a nice way of assisting players, without interfering with the flow of battle. It seems that other players wanted a bit more explanation though. In a post at the Resonance of Fate official blog, director Takayuki Suguro responded to player complaints that the demo was tough on newcomers. He admitted this to be the case and apologized. So why isn't a tutorial in the demo? The reason, explains Suguro, is that demos, like retail products, have to clear an inspection process. The demo was made in parallel with the final version of the game, and they were unable to spend too much effort on it.
