Roxzee of <Teen Moo Squad> on Dragonmaw wrote, "I recently discontinued my World of Warcraft account. Before I left the game I decided it would be fun to grant my level 71 Druid epic flight form. After flying around, I found a nice perch and took a few screen shots of Roxzee watching over the forest that I fell in love with not so long ago." 12/13/2009
I'm sure by now it's pretty much no secret whatsoever that half the team, myself included, spent a good part of the waning days of Patch 3.2 enamored with Dragon Age Origins . Maybe it's the innocent charm of the leading man, Alistai r , the deep and involved game world, or the fact that Marilyn Manson totally warned us that this was gonna be big, but I'm in deep. Patch 3.3 is finally dragging me back to WoW with its pure awesomeness, but Dragon Age is still pretty fresh in my mind, and there's more DLC to come. How the WoW community is about to push t... How the WoW community is about to push the self-destruct button
12/13/2009
This post is going to be very meta in some regards, and it's going to touch on a few things that deal with the WoW community's very existence. We've written this article in hopes that it might help calm the waters, or at least bring some will on the part of the multitudes of individuals not to jump on the wrong bandwagon. If you've been paying attention to the role forums and the "Ghostcrawler drama" this past week , you know what I'm talking about. If not, we'll begin with a brief rundown. The Inherency of the Status Quo WoW is designed and run by a team of people, with a handful of "leads" in position to direct the design of the game. These people, such as Ghostcrawler, are at the top of the ladder in terms of game development. They are the conglomerate of the entire design and development teams underneath them. Ghostcrawler , and in the past a few people like him, post on the role forums daily in an effort to establish a dialogue with the community over some, but not all, game design principals. The community, as expected, is more than happy to talk with Ghostcrawler and the rest of Blizzard. The Harm of the Vocal Minority Continue reading How the WoW community is about to push the self-destruct button Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Virtual selves , Blizzard How the WoW community is about to push the self-destruct button originally appeared on WoW.com on Sat, 12 Dec 2009 22:50:00 EST. After defeating Kil'Jaeden, Bumdee of <Civil Warcraft> on Shattered Hand wanted to take another peek at the restored Sunwell. So once he left the instance, he used Far Sight to look back into the demon lord's former sanctum. To his surprise, he found Lady Liadrin still kneeling at the Sunwell . Ah, patch 3.3 ! Between Icecrown Citadel and the Dungeon Finder Tool , most of the team is too busy chain running dungeons to bother to let us know what they're playing this weekend. But at least some of our stalwart crew of WoW -playing adventurers managed to get their heads out of the game for long enough to let us know what they're up to -- and, no surprise, most of them are hanging out in Icecrown and collecting loot using the Dungeon Finder. The suspense lies only in the details -- which you may read on to see for yourself. Breakfast Topic: Sylvanas, my new BFF Breakfast Topic: Sylvanas, my new BFF
12/12/2009
Okay, the best part of running random dungeons on my tauren is getting to hang out with Sylvanas. In the new five mans (Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron and Halls of Reflection) Jaina Proudmoore is the Alliance NPC with a score to settle with Arthas, and she does a fine job and all, but Sylvanas... none of this conflicted, he was once my boyfriend, how can I kill the man I once loved stuff with Sylvanas. No, Sylvanas is all about one thing, and that one thing is killing Arthas: she only retreats when she's taken over five million damage! That's pretty stubborn. In general I really enjoy the lore moments in both versions of the new five man, enough that I'll keep trying to run them as many times as is possible just to get to see them. Not to mention the climactic moment of the Deathbringer Saurfang encounter (which I completely spoiled for my Alliance guild... sorry, guys!) and I'd love to see the ( heavy spoilers ahead please don't watch if you don't want to be spoiled I warned you this link is spoilertastic ) Horde equivalent , perhaps on 10 man sometime soon. So, how are you liking the lore of Fall of the Lich King so far? Not enough, too much, just right? How is your lore porridge, baby bear? Sorry, I haven't gotten to sleep much, too much PuGging. Patch 3.3 is the last major patch of Wrath of the Lich King . With the new Icecrown Citadel 5-man dungeons and 10/25-man raid arriving soon, patch 3.3 will deal the final blow to Arthas. WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.3 will keep you updated with all the latest patch news. Yes, we know some stores have Cataclysm ... Yes, we know some stores have Cataclysm release dates
12/12/2009
There's been a lull of Cataclysm info recently, so we're getting repeats tenfold of the kind of emails we used to get before Wrath 's official release date was announced -- emails saying that Amazon or Gamestop or other retailers have release dates listed for the new expansion already. Here's the rub. Blizzard hasn't yet divulged a release date for Cataclysm , probably because they have no earthly idea when it's coming out yet. Until they do, any release dates from stores are, at best, speculation or, at worst, outright lies. But why would retailers list a release date for Cataclysm if one doesn't exist yet? Simple: to take your money. Many game retailers (Gamestop especially) stock their stores based solely on preorder numbers, only getting a few extra for the teeming masses that never thought to go to Wal-Mart to get a guaranteed copy without putting money down first. In the meantime, you get to ... not have that money. Not a good deal. Preordering is a process designed to get money from you without getting anything in return for an inordinate amount of time, so wait until Blizzard announces a date before you plunk any of your hard-earned money down. And, again -- we know when the sites say Cataclysm 's coming out. You'll know just as soon as we do when it'll actually be available. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will destroy Azeroth as we know it. Nothing will be the same. In WoW.com's Guide to Cataclysm you can find out everything you need to know about WoW's third expansion. From Goblins and Worgens to Mastery and Guild changes , it's all there for your cataclysmic enjoyment. Blizzard announces Rise and Fall of the ... Blizzard announces Rise and Fall of the Lich King screenshot contest
12/12/2009
Blizzard's community team is working like crazy before the holidays -- just a few days after the dessert contest kicked off, they've now announced a screenshot contest , this one centering on "The Rise and Fall of the Lich King." Basically, they want you to take a screenshot of your character somehow fighting the Scourge , and in return, they're giving away 11 steins. Ten lucky winners will pick up Rise of the Lich King steins from Taverncraft, and one lucky grand prize winner will win the #1 of 750 out of the limited quantity of signed Legendary Collection Rise of the Lich King steins released. That's actually pretty awesome -- I haven't been enticed to buy a stein yet, but I will definitely submit a screenshot to win one. And we can even help you win -- check out our recent post on how to screenshot for tips and tricks on how to do it exactly right. Keep your photographer's eye open as you play against the Scourge this month (the contest ends on midnight January 1st, 2010), and one of your captures might pick up some real-life loot. There are quite a few players out there who'd like nothing more than to work their own way through the new content in a little peace and quiet. Dear Drama Mamas : I've been really enjoying the new content that came out a few days ago, now that instances are actually available to run. But I've encountered a problem that has bothered me ever since WoW started releasing patches. One of my favorite things about WoW is the story and the discovery of an unfolding plot. This new expansion has great story elements, from the raid to the new five-mans. Having been a member of my guild from patch 1.5 or so, I've been through thick and thin with the group. I am a regular guy with a standard job and normal demands of a social life. So perhaps I can't play quite as much as some others, which leads me to hit content hours to days later than some of my guildmates. Just like watching a movie, I enjoy watching the plot develop and discovering my own strategies to boss fights. But I seem to not be able to convey this to guildmates, and any attempts to insulate myself from unsolicited advice and "helpful guildmates" is met with confusion and astonishment. I have very clearly stated how I like to enjoy new content and have asked for people to respect my wishes. I certainly understand I can't prevent giddiness in guild chat or chatting over Vent. 12/12/2009
Bungie writes: "See? It's Friday already. Our wait's not going to be that unbearable after all. The Tier 1 asset has been deployed, the Spike TV stage is being set (which is quite the sight to behold, by the way – more on that in a moment), and as folks in certain seedy sectors of the Internet are wont to say, you now have a total of one sleeps until you get to lay your drowsy little eyes on it. It's out of our hands now. As they say in the biz, it's shipped. We can hardly wait. A tremendous amount of work went into this two and a half minute first look. Creative Director Marcus Lehto, and his Halo: Reach team knew it was gonna be a challenge to get it into fighting shape in just two months time, but they didn't want your first look to be CG footage. You demand more from Bungie. So you're getting a snippet of a cinematic."
