BioShock 2 multiplayer modes revealed (B... BioShock 2 multiplayer modes revealed (BioShock 2)
11/15/2009
9lives.be: "M.E. Chung, Multiplayer Designer at 2K Marin, revealed some new multiplayer modes for BioShock 2. The first mode is Turf War. It's a faction-based mode where you have to gain control of Rapture's territories to win the game. You gain control by finding specific points within the map that control the territories, your proximity to the control point will fill up a meter and gain control of the point for your team when its full. The faction that has held onto the spaces the longest will prevail. The second one is called ADAM Grab. It's a mode where your possession of the Little Sister gives you ADAM, and the person who holds onto her the longest will win the game. It was a challenge coming up with rules that fit because of the way the cities were designed. We wanted to find something that worked with the strengths of Rapture's architecture, so that's where ADAM Grab comes in – the point is to get the Little Sister and to get "lost" in the city. Finally, Last Splicer Standing is a variant on the already announced Civil War mode. There's no respawning in this mode like the other ones; it's a round-based mode where each round's winner is determined when everyone on the other team is down. Taking respawn out and putting all the value of survivability on one life changed the pace of the game. We liked that it was a different experience, so we kept it in as a variant for people who really enjoy the slower, more deliberate-action style of gameplay."

Assassin's Creed II Special Edition Unbo... Assassin's Creed II Special Edition Unboxing (Assassin's Creed II)
11/14/2009
Gamervision: As you might know by now, Gamervision takes Collector's Editions very, very seriously. You can be sure that at least one person in the office will be picking up one or another, and then chatting about it the following day. What can we say, we love plastic stuff! It's also cool to see developers try and one-up each other, each trying to give gamers more bang for their buck. As of now, the winner is likely BioShock, which came with a fantastic Big Daddy figure for a measly $10, or Modern Warfare 2 with it's night vision goggles, since, you know, they technically have a use outside of sitting on a shelf. That crown might be shifting, however, since we've been sent some images of the new Assassin's Creed II Special Edition that make it look like the new lord of all things materialistic. Yes, yes, we already knew what was in the box, but the images below give a great sense of scale, and show exactly how awesome the $80 box is.

11/14/2009
Now we all know that Final Fantasy XIII will be released on March 9th, but it's not the only title that will hit store shelves in said month. And especially on the PS3 there are big hitters all looking for room on the same plane. Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, Heavy Rain in February, and as stated, Final Fantasy XIII. March is overbooked and the best solution is for Sony to push back two big games, namely GT5 and God of War III into the months of April and May of next year respectively if they want all their big hitters to sell well. Here's why.

Record of Agarest War Coming To Xbox 360... Record of Agarest War Coming To Xbox 360 & PS3 in 2010 (Record of Agarest War)
11/14/2009
Kotaku.com Writes:Aksys announces that their saucy strategy RPG Record of Agarest War, would be coming to the Xbox 360 as well as he PlayStation 3 next spring, a decision they claim has saved the world. Record of Agarest War, also known as "that soul-breeding game," was announced for North American PlayStation Network release back in July, leaving Xbox 360 owners to sit and weep and wonder why. Now the publisher has revealed that 360 owners will get to indulge in creating the next-generation of hero alongside PS3 owners this spring, a decision that is apparently much more important than anyone suspected. "In truth, we had Record of Agarest War ready to go up on the PlayStation Network months ago," [Ed.'s note: That's a lie.] says Ben Bateman, Editor, Aksys Games, "But when a haggard man emerged from a ball of crackling energy that materialized outside our office with dire warnings from a dark future, we decided to reconsider. As it turns out, a PlayStation Network-exclusive release of Agarest was-or rather, would have been-the catalyst for World War III. The gaming community was torn apart-literally-by this apparent favoritism, and from that schism poured the infinite minions of Satan himself, the Lord of Lies. The man told us, his eyes blank with the 1000-yard stare, of the horrors of this future war. He had been sent back in time, the last hope of a desperate human resistance, to prevent what the people of this desolate future Earth called, simply, 'The Breaking.' As the last spark of life passed from his body, broken and battered by his journey through the time vortex, we swore to honor his final wish. ""This is why Record of Agarest War has been delayed," Ben continues, his eyes wet with tears, "So that we may release it on both consoles, and in doing so, save the world." They are a brave, brave people.

TMC: Metacritic.com is now listing what seems to be the first review of the highly anticipated apocalyptic zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2. Even thou the game was criticized when it was shown at last E3 Valve seems to have another winner in their hand with this sequel. The Official Xbox Magazine gave Left 4 Dead 2 a 9.5/10. Here's what they had to say. "An undisputable improvement over its predecessor in every way, and it steals its own crown as best co-op game on the Xbox. It's chainsaw-twirlingly good. With Blizzard having pushed back beta the fans are itching for a bone. What has Blizzard been working on all this time? The fans are ready for beta, why don't we have it? With Blizzard's focus on quality one can only assume that they've come up with a list of "must haves" for Starcraft 2 or Battle.net that they just simply don't want to ship without it...

Download the 438MB Half-Life 2 mod Dino D-Day from FileShack to find out. Dino D-Day is described as a "prototype" for a planned commercial release on Steam in 2010 so it's not quite fleshed out yet but there are indeed Nazi dinosaurs to hunt.

Star Trek Online: Two games in one (Star... Star Trek Online: Two games in one (Star Trek: Online)
11/13/2009
There's no shortage of fiction in the Star Trek universe, but harvesting those resources can be a double edged sword as Cryptic don't want to annoy the most hardcore of fans. Perhaps the biggest challenge is crafting gameplay which faithfully emulates the series and it's something which Cryptic are investing a huge amount of effort: "When you think about Star Trek there is no way to separate the image of the iconic starships from the away team exploring an alien landscape. We knew right off the bat that we'd have to make both the space and ground experiences. That's two games right there!" Making one game is hard enough, but trying to tie together two different forms of gameplay into one cohesive experience must be incredibly challenging. So far most of the previews have featured the space combat at great length, but we are yet to see what it's like questing on a planets surface.

Breakfast Topic: A trip to the stylist, ... Breakfast Topic: A trip to the stylist, part one
11/14/2009
Full disclosure here: The main thing that makes me want to play a particular race is their choice in hairstyles. Especially the females. Sometimes when I go to Stormwind and enter the barber shop I say, out loud, "All right, designers, let's send our models to the L'Oreal Paris hair salon! Make it work!" Okay, that last part isn't entirely accurate. Or is it? Anyway, yeah. Hairstyles are important to me, which is why I'm simultaneously happy and a bit miffed about the new styles in Wrath , a lot of which were just copy-paste jobs from other races. Night elf females still have a grand total of two good haircuts and human males can, joy of joys, be Goku now. So my question to you, dear readers, the first in a series, is this: What are your favorite and least favorite hairstyles in the game? When you see a human male with the Goku haircut or the foxtail, do you want to kill a man? For female troll players, you don't even need to answer. I mean, you have what, two hairstyles anyway? Neither of them any good? Maybe next expansion. Addendum: And just why do goblin females get all the good hipster haircuts, Blizzard? They can be Tegan or Sara. I can't even be the girl from La Roux. Drama Mamas: Wife aggro Drama Mamas: Wife aggro
11/14/2009
Dodge the drama and become that player everyone wants in their group with the Drama Mamas . Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are real-life mamas and experienced WoW players -- and j ust as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your server. We're taking your questions at DramaMamas (at) WoW (dot) com. Wife aggro (GF aggro, SO aggro -- whatever you call it at your place) isn't about WoW . Let's get that misconception out of the way right now. Wife aggro is about balancing a relationship with a hobby that tantalizingly dangles one person physically in front of yet emotionally light years beyond the reach of the other partner. Wife aggro is about attention - who's giving it where, who's not getting enough. Wife aggro is about what happens when couples lose their grip on how to separate "me" time from "us" time, on how "being at home" is different than "being available." Wife aggro is about what happens when the wires of "my" time, "your" time and "our" time become crossed and start arcing angry, white-hot sparks. And left unchecked, wife aggro is about demands that cast one partner as the shrill arbiter of what the other partner is "allowed" to do and be. Dear Mamas: I started WoW this year after many years of patient waiting until all the planets and resources aligned for me, and I was completely rewarded. During those times I was able to play 3-4 hours (at least) almost daily, having no personal issues because of the game (I'd still go to work, the gym, dancing classes, read, watch TV, out with friends, and last but not least, my girlfriend), and started getting invited to my Horde guild's raids. But then I got married. In spite of having talked about it with my fiancé before the big step and agreeing I'd still play it casually, the first weeks were hell ... Every time I'd even try to look at my computer, she would invent something for us or me to do, and my gaming "time" was pushed back and back. Finally the bubble popped and we had a huge argument, and the best I could get from her was one WoW day a week. Fixing raiding lag Fixing raiding lag
11/13/2009
There is quite a thread going around with some ideas about how to fix raiding lag. Lag, like many cross-computer issues, is a pretty complicated thing -- there's all kinds of reasons it could be happening, from errors on your computer to errors on Blizzard's end, and all the little connections and switches in between. A certain amount of lag is unavoidable. But there are certainly some things you can do to make sure the link between your client and Blizzard's server is working at its best. This thread , which started on the EJ forums and then moved on to Livejournal , has some good tips in it, including turning off most combat logs like Recount and even Blizzard's official "Everything" log -- having to write down everything happening in game does cost some computer time as you play. Blocking addon "spam" is another way to keep things simple and clear -- while lots of useful addons help you share information between raid members, sending that info back and forth can cause problems when you're down to milliseconds of lag. The final suggestion is to run a third-party program that's supposed to keep your latency high, but I would be leery of doing that -- a better solution if you continue to have high latency constantly, even after making the changes above, would be to go to Blizzard (and/or your Internet Service Provider, or ISP) with your issues. They have a good guide to smoothing out your connection , and many times the problem can be with your router or firewall , which is usually a quick fix. BlizzCon 2010: Las Vegas Convention Cent... BlizzCon 2010: Las Vegas Convention Center retracts statements
11/13/2009
For the past day WoW.com has been hard at work getting the story straight on the discrepancies between what the Las Vegas Convention Center was saying about BlizzCon 2010 , and what Blizzard was saying. Until recently, the LVCC had been telling us, and others, who inquired that BlizzCon 2010 was being held there July 30th and 31st. Blizzard was, more or less, denying it. Given both organizations are quite large and reputable, this was quite a confusing situation. However as of this afternoon, the Las Vegas Convention Center emailed us to let us know that due to their human error, the confirmation they were giving was false. According to the LVCC, Blizzard and the LVCC had spoken once about having BlizzCon 2010 in Las Vegas, and a hold was placed on those dates as a marketing tactic to entice Blizzard to the area. However, that hold was inadvertently turned into a confirmed booking, leading to the inaccurate confirmations and resulting issues. The LVCC has apologized for the confusion, and thus ends the saga of BlizzCon in Las Vegas. Every week, Raid Rx will help you quarterback your healers to victory! Your host is Matt Low , the grand poobah of World of Matticus and a founder of No Stock UI , a WoW blog for all things UI, macro, and addon related. I finally lived through Faction Champions and now you can too! After surviving defeating Faction Champs in Trial of the Grand Crusader , I've managed to figure out a few tricks healers can use to help themselves. While it's almost impossible to come up with a unified and methodical strategy, I've compiled a list of tips and advice to maximize your survivability and the players around you. Think of it more as guidelines as opposed to solidified rules. Remember when we first launched Bungie Pro Video, the technology formerly known as the thing you shouldn't still be calling BuTube? Yeah, that was great. We wrote about how you were going to be able to take all of your favorite Film Clips from Halo 3 and turn them into videos you could play on your computer and stream over the World Wide Webs. On that front we delivered, and plenty of people have been taking advantage. But we also promised a mechanism by which you could take advantage of more Render Minutes at a fine, but fair price. And that's where we hit a little snag."
Assassin's Creed II Special Edition Unbo... Assassin's Creed II Special Edition Unboxing (Assassin's Creed)

11/13/2009
As the footage from a former Rare employee shows work on Perfect Dark 2 was done in 2007 before being scrapped as well as Kameo 2. Additionally, MundoRare has some exclusive information to share regarding Perfect Dark 2. According to our own sources, PD2 was indeed started in 2007, but by late 2007, it wasn't greenlighted; it was a prototype instead. Chris Seavor from Conker and Killer Instinct fame was in charge of the project. By early 2008, the PD2 team was cut down to a 3-man team, effectively putting the game on hold. At the same time, our sources revealed that back then, it was "overwhelmingly unlikely" that PD2 would no longer be set in the PD universe. During early 2008, the game (which evolved into something that wasn't PD2) was still in its early stages and with an uncertain future.
