01/27/2009
Darkpower of GameGazette.com writes: "As most of you very well know by now, Bethesda's Todd Howard has made a very controversial quote concerning an endgame to Fallout 3 on the Playstation 3. He said, "Not at this time, no." This is while both the 360 version and the PC version of the popular game is scheduled to recieve post-ending content for their versions. Many people, even though that have no plans to buy a PS3 console, have called this move highly unfair and without a reason behind it. Many knew about Bethesda's decision to give the 360 some exclusive downloadable content, but never did they imagine this kind of shafting for one system's version. This is where Game Gazette comes in. Todd Howard apparently has a love fest for MTV Multiplayer, and is obviously doing the rounds for talking to people. We want to have the opportunity to ask him a few tough questions about his reasoning behind the PS3 version being shafted like this. In this regard, I am going to challenge Todd Howard to answer these questions, and to e-mail me so we can get something set up for him to answer them, because the gamers deserve some answers that he isn't giving to questions that not too many will be asking him." Square Enix Junk Mail Pisses Off Man, Ma... Square Enix Junk Mail Pisses Off Man, Man Files Lawsuit, Man Wins (Final Fantasy XI)
01/27/2009
Kotaku: "An individual with no connection to Square Enix or Final Fantasy XI (he's never played it supposedly!) was being heavily spammed with FFXI re-registration emails. This individual got annoyed and took legal action. It's believed that his email address was being used by item dealers to create Japanese PlayOnline accounts to access FFXI. He apparently was getting a ton of these emails because his address was being used to create money trading accounts that were expected to be insta-banned and then re-registered right away for the next batch of trading. The gentleman then contacted Square Enix to complain and ask for the company to cease contacting him regarding FFXI. Square Enix, however, refused, claiming that it was impossible to stop sending these emails to just his email address. Instead of just giving up (and blocking this spam?), he took Square Enix to court. In early 2007, he filed a lawsuit in small claims court - and lost. He didn't stop there, but appealed to a district court and won."

01/27/2009
Console Monster writes: "Play.com has revealed a special Microsoft Points card worth 1600 Microsoft Points will be released next month. The Points card, printed with a Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost & Damned design will be a limited edition, released on Friday 13th February 2009. The purpose of the Points card is to raise awareness of Grand Theft Auto IV's downloadable content released very soon after the Points card on the 17th, which ironically is also worth 1600 Microsoft Points. Whilst it may not seem to be a cheaper alternative to buying a 2100 Microsoft Points card, it's something to look out for...."

Torrence Davis of The Bitbag writes, "There's been a huge misunderstanding about Fallout 3 and the ability to go back and play unfinished quests after the DLC has been applied to your 360 or PC. Apparently, gaming blog Next Gen News credited MTV Multiplayer with the info, but made it sound like there's actually a patch coming to the 360 or PC. Age of Conan to defend Xbox 360 from PS3... Age of Conan to defend Xbox 360 from PS3 MMO-fest (Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures)
01/27/2009
Gamer.Blorge: "Everyone has been talking about the MMOs coming to the PS3 in 2009. However, the MMOs coming to the Xbox 360 have been getting zero hype. There definitely are a couple games slated to hit the system in 2009. One of them is Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. Despite the rumors of its demise this game is still in development. Sony has been hyping the company's MMO lineup recently with 2009 in full swing. Some of the titles that have been shown are: The Agency, DC Universe and Free Realms. Personally I am fairly excited about DC Universe because the game is directed by the famed DC Comics artist, Jim Lee."

01/27/2009
GameSpot writes: "Last week the NPD Group, the industry standard of game-industry research firms, released its US sales figures for 2008. However, the company's top 10 game rankings only tracked individual products, or SKU (Stock Keeping Units), sold at retailers in the US. As a result, it was unclear how two of the year's biggest rivals--Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2--fared against one another. Besides being multiplatform releases, the two solidly reviewed rhythm games each came in various retail configurations, such as a la carte or with one or more instruments."

01/26/2009
www.pushingplay.com writes "Players who made it through Tomb Raider: Underworld were treated to what some may consider a lackluster ending. No flair, no fireworks, and no exploding volcanoes this time around. However, Tomb Raider Forums member WhiteTiger may have found an alternate ending to Lara's latest trek hidden in the game files on the PC release. The alternate ending is quite a bit more spicy than the original, and it seems to be a bit out of character for Ms. Croft. The original and alternate endings are embedded past the break."

Netherwing dailies nerfed Netherwing dailies nerfed
01/25/2009
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , News items , Mounts MMO-Champion found small, yet important, undocumented change. The Drop rates for Netherwing Relics and Fel Glands have been increased to 100%. This will significantly shorten the time it takes to do the two daily quests The Not-So-Friendly Skies ... and A Slow Death . For those that need their memory jogged, The Not-So-Friendly Skies daily is the one where you have to go around and kill Dragonmaw Transporters. It was, for me, one of the most annoying quests to do in the whole chain. The spawn points always seemed camped, and the previous drop rate was about 50%, give or take. In A Slow Death, you have to poison 12 Dragonmaw Peon Camps. The Fel Glands dropped from any tainted wildlife in Shadowmoon Valley at a previous drop rate of about 25%. Hopefully this will do two things. First, it'll help everyone working their way towards the 100 mount achievement, Mountain-O-Mounts . And secondly, it should help people get their alts a Nether Drake all the faster. Netherwing dailies nerfed originally appeared on WoW Insider on Sun, 25 Jan 2009 23:00:00 EST. Spiritual Guidance: Is Greater Heal on L... Spiritual Guidance: Is Greater Heal on Life Support?
01/25/2009
Filed under: Priest , (Priest) Spiritual Guidance , Wrath of the Lich King Every Sunday (usually), Spiritual Guidance will offer practical insight for priests of the holy profession. Your host is Matt Low , the grand poobah of World of Matticus and a founder of PlusHeal , a new healing community for all restorative classes. Is the Priest usage of Greater Heal fading away? Matticus shall answer! An excellent thread on Plus Heal has caught my attention and it's a topic that's also been picked up by Kestrel . It's about the current use of Greater Heal (or lack thereof). Check your meters. Specifically, check your cast sequences. See if you can determine how often you use Greater Heal on a typical night. If you're a player who uses it often, I applaud you. From a mathematical and healing efficiency stand point, Greater Heal has the edge. Under lab conditions. Except raid environments aren't lab conditions. Let's go into detail about when Greater Heal is used in Discipline and Holy after the break. Continue reading Spiritual Guidance: Is Greater Heal on Life Support? WoW, Casually: A casual guide to the Lun... WoW, Casually: A casual guide to the Lunar Festival

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Events , Guides , (Casual) WoW, Casually Robin Torres writes WoW, Casually for the player with limited playtime. Of course, you people with lots of playtime can read this too, but you may get annoyed by the fact that we are unashamed, even proud, of the fact that beating WoW isn't our highest priority. Take solace in the fact that your gear is better than ours, but if that doesn't work, remember that we outnumber you. Not that that's a threat, after all, we don't have time to do anything about it. But if WoW were a democracy, we'd win. When I did my recap for last year , I listed events as the 4th top casual improvement for 2008. Some commenters didn't understand why events are good for casual players. I think that most of the in-game holidays are, in fact, great opportunities for casuals to enhance their characters and see the world. The Lunar Festival is a very useful event, particularly if you are an altaholic, like me. Following are some tips for getting the most out of the Lunar Festival . Lichborne: Death Knight DPS gear for Nax... Lichborne: Death Knight DPS gear for Naxxramas

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion , Tips , Instances , Guides , Death Knight , (Death Knight) Lichborne Welcome to Lichborne , the weekly class column for Warcraft's newest class, the Death Knight. Ok, I know I've been focusing on tank quite a lot lately, but I'm here to say that I swear I haven't forgotten about the DPS. To prove it to you, this week's edition of Lichborne is all about gearing up to hit 10-man Naxxramas as a DPS. For the most part, your gearing choices as a DPSer are going to be more or less the same no matter what your spec. For the most part, I'm going to be following the statistical information I outlined in the Death Knight statistics primer, which means the gear I pick out will follow this basic rule for stat choice: Hit rating to the 8% cap > strength/attack power > critical strike rating > expertise > everything else. The Colosseum: Back in black, with Light... The Colosseum: Back in black, with Lightss of Korgath
01/25/2009
Filed under: Paladin , Analysis / Opinion , AddOns , Interviews , The Colosseum The Colosseum takes us inside the world of the Gladiator (Brutal, Vengeful, Merciless, and otherwise), to interview some of the top Arena fighters in the battlegroups. Our goal is to bring a better understanding of the strategy, makeup, and work that goes into dueling it out for fame, fortune, and Netherdrakes. The Arena is live and filled with Gladiators brutally tearing one another apart. Obviously, then, it's the time for the return of the Colosseum, where we interview the players in your battlegroups to get an idea of what they're doing, what they're thinking, and what might be coming up next. Lightss of Korgath currently sits as a Holy Paladin on the Vengeance battlegroup's 9th ranked 3v3 team Lore Fanclub . He's only been Holy since patch 3.0.8 however, since before that ... Lightss fought in the Arena as a Protection Paladin! Part of the buzz about Season 5 has been that healers are suffering in the current season. Additionally,. I don't think anyone would claim tankadins are perfectly tuned for PvP. This makes Lightss interesting not just as a healer, but also as a unique gladiator. Let's see what he has to say behind the cut. Acme Anvil of the Righteous Acme Anvil of the Righteous

Filed under: Paladin , Warrior , Analysis / Opinion , Wrath of the Lich King Quite awhile ago now, I wrote about how playing a Protection Warrior made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside . Or I guess, cold and hard inside? I'm not really sure, but the gist of it was that the graphical appearance of Prot Warrior abilities combined with their sound effects made for a very visceral play experience. It was believable that I was up in a mob's face, keeping its attention focused on me, and taking everything it could dish out while remaining standing. Bashing things in the face with my shield was awesome, and it gave the illusion of being a very ferocious strike, which added a lot to gameplay. Without the sounds and images associated with it, it wouldn't have been nearly as fun. I return with additional thoughts on that: My Protection Paladin, while it still has a very special place in my heart, isn't nearly as fun as my Warrior directly because of a lack of graphical and aural appeal. The visuals and sounds associated with Protection Paladin spells? Lacking, to say the very least. Where a Warrior's Shield Slam looks and sounds like you have busted a skull open with your heavy shield and powerful blow, a Paladin's Shield of Righteousness somewhat sparkles at an opponent threateningly, with an utter lack of aural flair. Addon Spotlight: AutoBar Addon Spotlight: AutoBar
01/25/2009
Filed under: Features , AddOn Spotlight Last time on Addon Spotlight , we looked at Dominos , my current favorite bar mod for all my spells and abilities. Of course, like any good raider, I also have bar spots for my various consumables: bandages, potions, elixirs, buff food, and so forth. But it's a pain to manually reconfigure all that every time I get a new item. Fortunately, I don't have to: AutoBar does it for me, and means I never have to hunt in my bags for a scroll or a quest item. In short, AutoBar adds one or more bars to your screen, each full of buttons for various categories. For instance, the default "main" bar has slots for: Hearthstone (and related abilities, like Death Gate or Scroll of Recall ) Health potions Mana potions Buff foods Mage foods Elixirs (battle and guardian) Mounts Tradeskills Quest items Trinkets And probably some more things that I'm not remembering right now. AB shows the most recent item you've clicked for each category (in some cases) or the best item (in others), and other options in the category appear on mouse-over. 01/25/2009
Filed under: Screenshots , Around Azeroth , Galleries Those of you with a more cynical bent might revise the title to "Michael Flatley should be ashamed", but I'll stay out of this particular powder keg. Anyway, Zimmi of <Bad> on Dragonmaw caught her bored guildmates doing a little dance (but hopefully not making a little love and getting down tonight) while waiting to fill up their Malygos raid. This is giving me flashbacks to the horrible line-dance segment in elementary school gym class, where the only record we had was "Achy Breaky Heart" so they played it five times in a row while we all shuffled around and tried not to look anyone else in the eye. Glurg. Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth ! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next! Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, double-mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. World Tour Doubles US Sales of Rock Band... World Tour Doubles US Sales of Rock Band? ?2 (Guitar Hero World Tour)
